Stacy Peterson on Defense Witness List

Drew Peterson is not charged in Stacy's disappearance

The defense would like to call ... Stacy Peterson.

So says the Sun-Times' gossip columnist Michael Sneed, who has had a direct line to the accused killer while he awaits trial in a Will County jail for allegedly killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Stacy Peterson is the fourth wife of Drew Peterson, and she has been missing since October 2007. She was married to Drew when Savio was found dead in a bathtub on the second story of her Bolingbrook home. Prosecutors allege she was drowned by Drew.

Drew Peterson is not charged in Stacy's disappearance, but many believe he had a role in her vanishing.

Adding her to the witness list is an interesting move by the defense. Peterson's attorneys are suggesting to the jury that they believe Stacy is alive and could potentially appear in court to testify. It's also a reminder that Stacy is not around.

Drew Peterson has always maintained that Stacy ran off with another man and has said he would ask her for a divorce if he ever saw her again, Sneed reports.

Prosecutors have waged a more than 2-year battle to include hearsay evidence in the landmark murder trial that could allow Stacy to testify from the grave.
