Suburban Police Sergeant Shot 22-Year-Old Son Multiple Times: CPD

A suburban police sergeant who once served as the interim chief at his department was charged with shooting his 22-year-old son multiple times Tuesday in a residence on Chicago’s Southwest Side, police said.

Raymond Leuser III, 48, of the 6200 block of South Nashville, Chicago, was charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, Chicago police said.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed to NBC 5 that Leuser is a sergeant with the Indian Head Park Police Department and that the shooting victim is his son. Indian Head Park police did not immediately respond to calls and emails requesting comment.

Leuser was arrested about 2:43 a.m. on the 6200 block of South Nashville, the same block address given for his residence. He was identified as the shooter of a man, later identified as his son, who was found in the residence with gunshot wounds to his leg, arm and abdomen. The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to Christ Hospital in serious condition.

Leuser served as the interim chief of police at Indian Head Park Police Department until May of 2016.

Court documents show he was one of the officers who responded to the scene of Kelli O'Laughlin's notorious 2011 murder.

Leuser is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
