Children Hurt in South Chicago Fire

Two children were injured during a house fire Sunday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The fire started about 5:20 a.m. on the back porches of a 2½-story frame house at 8615 S. Colfax Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

Two children -- including a 6-year-old -- who were inside the home suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, according to Langford.

Langford said the cause of the fire is not known as of 8:45 a.m. but is under investigation.
