Sochi Olympics Day 1: Locals to Watch

There will be lots of action on the first official day of Olympic competition, and a few local athletes to watch for.

Below, find a full break-down of what, and who, to watch:

7:30 a.m. CT: Seventeen-year-old Emery Lehman of Oak Park, Ill., Jonathan Kuck of Champaign, Ill., and Patrick Meek of Chicago will be among the competitors Saturday in the Men's 5,000-meter speed skating event. (Watch it live here)

In case you missed it, NBC will re-air the medal event at 3:30 p.m. CT

4 a.m. CT: The U.S. women's hockey team takes on Finland in a preliminary-round opener. The U.S. is going for its first gold since the 1998 Nagano Games. Watch live online or on NBC Sports.

Buffalo Grove's Megan Bozek and Kendall Coyne of Palos Heights will compete on the U.S. team.

10:30 a.m. CT: The new figure skating team event continues Saturday morning with ice dancing. American partners and reigning Olympic silver medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White will give their first performance of the Games. Watch live here, on NBC Sports or catch highlights on NBC prime time.
