Slain Chicago Cop's Home Burglarized

Someone broke into Officer Hester Scott’s home and stole a TV, police said

The home of a slain Chicago Police officer was burglarized a day before her burial, police said.

Someone broke into Officer Hester Scott’s home in the 8800 block of South Wallace early Thursday and stole a TV, according to police.

Scott was found beaten to death last Friday, her body found in a sewer trap behind her Gresham neighborhood home, police said.

Scott's grandson, Keshawn Perkins, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery

Prosecutors said 15-year-old Keshawn Perkins beat and stabbed his grandmother and dumped her body in the backyard after she caught him skipping school. Perkins was charged as an adult and, if convicted, faces life in prison.

Scott was on the force for nearly 25 years and was thinking of retirement. She was stripped of her police powers in 2007 after her grandson, now charged with her murder, accused her of abuse.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services found no basis for the accusation. Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy posthumously restored her star.
