Skokie Police Alert Schools, Religious Institutions of ‘Suspicious Person'

The Skokie Police Department issued a warning to area schools and religious institutions Monday after they discovered a "suspicious person" taking photos outside of a synagogue and a high school over the weekend.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, police observed a man described as white or Middle Eastern taking pictures of the Iran Hebrew Congregation, located at 3820 Main St., according to police. When security approached the man, he told them he was taking pictures of a sign in front of the building.

About two hours later, a man matching the same description was seen taking photos of Niles North High School, located at 9800 North Lawler, police said. He then tried to enter the front door of the school, but he couldn't get inside because the door was locked. When security approached him, he said, "I already talked to one of your guards."

The man left both scenes in a four-door 2015 white Chevrolet Malibu with the Illinois license plate that reads "E906649."

No crimes have been reported at either the synagogue or the high school, but police are searching for the man "to determine the reason for his behavior."

Police ask anyone with information to call 911.
