Ireland Larson is only 7 years old, but in the fight of her life.
The brave young Minnesota native is eagerly awaiting a heart transplant, but on Tuesday afternoon Ireland met a singer who had a special gift for her.
When songwriter Karl Demer heard that Ireland wants to be a singer when she grows up, her story inspired him to tell her tale through music with a song called “Send Me An Angel.”
“I couldn't help with the heart part because I'm not a doctor, but I could write a song,” songwriter Karl Demer said.
Since Ireland is too sick to record it, he asked Katie Richards, a recent cancer survivor to join the project and they both made a special trip to meet Ireland and present her with her very own special song.
"Send Me An Angel" is on iTunes. All proceeds go to the family’s medical bills.
“They didn't know Ireland and they didn't know our family but they've just been so generous, so loving and so kind,” Ireland’s mother Kathleen Larson said. “It's been a great gift.”

Ireland was born with a congenital heart defect, VSD or ventricle septal defect and right hypoplastic heart defect, according to the family’s GiveForward page.
She has already undergone three open heart surgeries and has experienced multiple complications requiring numerous hospitalizations over the past four years, her family says.
Now they are anxiously awaiting a heart donor to give the brave young girl the transplant needed. They have been waiting more than four sleepless months for the phone to ring.
“We sold our house, my husband quit his job and we moved here to get the best care for our daughter,” Larson said.
As the family struggles to pay the mounting medical bills, they remain optimistic.
“We are hoping any day we get our call,” Larson said.
“Yeah, like maybe right now!” Ireland chimed in after her mother.
