Sick Puppy Stolen From Animal Rescue Returned to Police

No charges are pending due to a lack of information about the suspect

An 8-week-old puppy that was stolen from a suburban animal shelter earlier this week was returned to police Wednesday morning.

Faith, the 4-pound puppy, suffered from an upper respiratory infection that required medication. She was stolen Monday afternoon from Hopeful Tails Animal Rescue in Joliet. Witnesses allegedly saw two men enter the non-public part of the shelter and take the dog while volunteers were working in another part of the building.

The puppy was returned to the Joliet police station at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The woman who brought the puppy to the station said her daughter got the dog from her boyfriend, who said he got her from a friend. That friend said he got the dog from a man in Elwood, according to police.

Faith has been checked out by a vet and is in good health despite the upper respiratory infection, the animal shelter said. She will be available for adoption within a week or two.

No charges are pending at this time due to the lack of information on the suspect.
