Sex Offender Accused of Snapping Pics of Kids on Bus

A convicted sex offender is caught snapping photos of kids riding a CTA bus

A 40-year-old convicted child sex offender has been accused of taking photos of kids on a Chicago Transit Authority bus.

Carmen Sykes, of the 4200 block of West Carroll Avenue, was arrested Wednesday night.  CTA staffers said a woman on their bus complained that Sykes was taking pictures of two of her female children with his telephone, according to a police report.

"I took the pictures because I thought the girls were pretty," Sykes told police, according to their report.

He's been charged with two counts of taking photos by a sex offender.

According to records, in 1994 Sykes was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child under 13 years old after he attacked an 8-year-old child.  He was sentenced to three and half years in state prison and required to register as a sex offender.

In 2005, he was convicted on felony charges for failure to register as a sex offender.  Illinois requires all sex offenders to list themselves on the Sex Offender Registry.
