The pediatric surgeon who gave his own live to save two children from drowning in Lake Michigan Sunday is set to be laid to rest this week.
Dr. Donald Liu, 50, of Hyde Park died after jumping into the lake to rescue two children who had fallen out of a kayak. He specialized in surgeries for children with cancer, intestinal problems and physical trauma, his colleagues said.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon Wednesday at KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation, located at 1100 East Hyde Park Blvd., in Chicago.
Liu will be interred Wednesday at Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago.
He will be buried dressed in University of Chicago medical scrubs and holding a White Sox baseball, along with his children's pictures, according to the Chicago Tribune.
