Senator Dick Durbin Released From Hospital

Doctors say prognosis is good

U.S Senator Dick Durbin is out of the hospital just a day after doctors removed a “rare” tumor from his stomach.

Durbin, 65, was released Friday night from the University of Chicago Medical Center and should get back to a full work schedule next week,  his spokesman Joe Shoemaker told the Chicago Tribune.

Surgeons removed the small gastrointestinal tumor on Thursday during a procedure that had been scheduled for several weeks, his office told NBC Chicago.

According to a statement from his office, the tumor was discovered a few weeks ago during a routine medical check-up.   It also said the Senator went through the surgery “with flying colors” and is not expected to need further treatment.

Doctors completely removed the tumor and gave Durbin a good prognosis.
