Selena Gomez Gets Restraining Order Against Des Plaines Man

A judge granted Selena Gomez a restraining order against a man who reportedly threatened to kill her

Disney channel star Selena Gomez has obtained a restraining order against a former Des Plaines man after claiming he stalked her and threatened to kill her.

Thomas Brodnicki, 46, is required to stay 100 yards away from Gomez and her Burbank, Calif., workplace.

Gomez asked for the temporary restraining order last week, alleging Brodnicki visited her at work at least three times.

Des Plaines police Chief Jim Prandini didn't express surprise over the star's course of action. He said Brodnicki had been arrested several times while a resident of the community, including for the 2003 stalking and harassment of a waitress at the Sugar Bowl Restaurant.

Brodnicki was declared mentally unfit for trial twice in the case and ordered for mental treatment before he eventually pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to three years in jail.

But then in 2008 he was arrested again and charged with cyberstalking another woman worked at a White Hen Pantry that used to stand near the intersection of Lee Street and East Algonquin Road.

"He needs help. Until he gets help I expect this kind of thing will continue happening," said Prandini. "I would consider him to be a danger to society just by the facts of the cases in Des Plaines."

In the latest case, Brodnicki told a doctor at a Los Angeles mental health facility that he had conversations with God about killing Gomez, according to the Daily Herald.

Thomas Brodnicki is accused of stalking and harassing Disney Channel star Selena Gomez.
