2nd Fire Flares Up at Norwood Park Lumber Yard

A lumber yard on Chicago’s Northwest Side caught fire twice Tuesday morning, just one day after the 25th anniversary of another devastating fire.

At about 4:30 a.m., crews were called to Harry’s Lumber Company in the city's Norwood Park neighborhood for a two-alarm fire.

Firefighters extinguished the flames by 5:25 a.m., but at about 7:00 a.m., a three-alarm fire flared up.

The same lumber yard caught fire 25 years ago on Oct. 19, 1990. "My heart goes out because they went they through this 25 years ago then to go through this again, very touching feeling," said Perry Taylor, an employee at Harry's Lumber.

Several of the workers at the company are part-time and also work as firefighters. "It's a good family oriented job," Taylor said. "It's a sad day. Sad day cause it's a good company."

The wife of the lumber yard's owner says he will rebuild.

No injuries have been reported. It is still unknown as to what sparked the flames.
