The NHL All-Star Game debuted its new look on Sunday night, and things certainly were more exciting as the Pacific Division beat the Atlantic Division 1-0 to win the game and the $1 million cash prize.
John Scott scored two goals in the Pacific’s first game against the Central Division, and he was named the MVP of the game. Jonathan Quick and John Gibson combined for the shutout for the Pacific side, and Corey Perry scored the lone goal of the game as the team won the first-ever 3-on-3 All-Star tournament.
From the Blackhawks’ perspective, Patrick Kane had an interesting night, scoring a goal and getting bowled over on a hit from Scott in the Central Division’s loss to the Pacific in the second game of the night.
The first game went the way of the Atlantic Division, as they took down a 4-3 decision over the Metropolitan Division. The Metropolitan side held a 3-2 lead early on in the second half of the game, but goals from a pair of Atlantic defenseman turned the tide, as Aaron Ekblad and P.K. Subban each scored goals to give their team the victory and a spot in the championship game.
In the second game of the night, the Pacific and Central Divisions exchanged rapid goals, but the Pacific ultimately came out on top. Three different players scored two goals for the Pacific team, with Scott, Daniel Sedin, and Taylor Hall doing the honors. A late goal from Tyler Seguin made the game closer, but a goal from Hall and an empty-netter from Drew Doughty helped seal the deal.
In the championship game, the goaltenders ended up stealing the show. Roberto Luongo and Quick each were tremendous in the first half of the contest, combining for 24 saves and zero goals allowed as they held their opponents at bay.
In the second half, Ben Bishop continued to shine for the Atlantic side, but he finally surrendered the goal that ultimately proved to be the winner. Sedin got back on the scoresheet yet again for the Pacific team, as he found Corey Perry with a pass on the rush. Perry then snapped a shot past Bishop, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

Late in the game, the Pacific side was under constant assault, but their goaltending was able to ultimately prevail. Gibson made some big saves in the final seconds of the game, and the Pacific team was able to grab the $1 million prize.
