A school nurse and another employee were among the first to rush to save a man who was shot outside of a school in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood Friday morning.
The pair thought there was simply a car accident near around 9:30 a.m. in the 500 block of North Laramie, but quickly learned that wasn't the case.
"When I came out I saw a different picture and I thought how can I contribute to possibly save a life," said behavior interventionist Andrew Scott Musso.
Police said a 30-year-old man was in the driver's seat of a car when another man walked up and opened fire, authorities said. The gunman fled the scene but no one was in custody as of noon Friday.
Police said the victim's vehicle was not parked at the time of the shooting and crashed into two poles.
The shooting took place near a Moving Everest charter school, multiple churches and a club for children.
"He was not responsive, the door was locked," said Amanda Thorson, a nurse at the school.

School officials at Moving Everest said the building was placed on lockdown and a staff member performed CPR on the shooting victim.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the worker was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for evaluation.
The school said a social worker and counseling group are available at the building. Area North detectives are investigating.
"I'm just trying to assist where I can," said Thorson.
