Schaumburg Woman Gets 5 Years for Friend's Drug Death

A suburban Chicago woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for supplying the drugs that led to a friend's overdose death in 2014.

In a negotiated plea with Kane County prosecutors, 24-year-old Katharyn M. Stanish of Schaumburg on Friday agreed to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced Monday.

Prosecutors alleged Stanish gave heroin and cocaine to 23-year-old Bradley Schiller of Bartlett, on Dec. 10, 2014. Stanish, who was a friend of Schiller's, had rented a room at a hotel where she and Schiller ingested drugs that Stanish had purchased.

Stanish told authorities she passed out, and when she awoke about an hour later Schiller was unconscious on the floor. Schiller was taken to a hospital and died four days later.
