Saturday Funeral for Slain Community Leader

Funeral services have been set for a 79-year-old Chicago man who was shot to death in a Christmas Eve robbery attempt.

Services for Ralph Elliott will be held Saturday at Metropolitan Community Church.

The Rev. Leon Perry III says the family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to the church's food program for the needy.

Elliott was shot in the face and shoulder on Christmas Eve as he picked up food for a family party at a South Side fast food restaurant.

Lee Cration of Joliet is charged with attempted armed robbery, violation of parole and first-degree murder in Elliott's death. He's being held at Cook County Jail without bond.

Cration was on parole for a 1985 murder conviction. It wasn't immediately clear who his attorney is.
