1 in Custody After SWAT Incident in Suburban Oak Forest

One person was in custody Monday after a near nine-hour standoff involving police and SWAT in Oak Forest.

Early Monday morning, nearly a dozen Oak Forest police officers, SWAT team members and several emergency vehicles were seen swarming a residential area near 160th Street and Forest Avenue in the southwest suburb.

One neighbor who lives on the block told NBC 5 she heard a gunshot just before 9 p.m. Sunday, around the same time police said the incident began. After going outside, the woman said she was told by police who were on the scene that they were investigating the incident.

The woman said she was awoken hours later, around 3 a.m., to find a SWAT team on the block surrounding a home a few doors down. She told NBC 5 she could hear police repeatedly asking for a man to come out of the home.

Police said the incident came to an end around 6 a.m. after hours of trying to talk the suspect out of the home.

No injuries were reported.

Further details were not immediately made available.
