Runner Collapses and Dies at Grant Park Race: Police

A 39-year-old man running a race in Grant Park died after collapsing during the Thursday night event, police said.

Emergency crews responded at 7:36 p.m. to the first block of South Columbus Drive, according to Chicago Police.

He had suffered from cardiac arrest and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, police and fire officials said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, a 3.5-mile race, was scheduled to start in Grant Park at 7 p.m. Organizers could not immediately be reached for comment.
