Rock ‘n' Roll 1/2 Marathon Hits Chicago

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago ½ Marathon hits Chicago July 22.

With the infamous Chicago marathon quickly sprinting closer, runners can rock in their training for marathon season with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago ½ Marathon.

The July 22 event, sponsored by XSport Fitness, combines rock n’ roll and running shoes in its upbeat racing event.

Live local bands will be stationed along the 13-mile course in Grant Park along with high school cheerleaders to cheer on runners as they compete for the title of most supportive squad.

The race begins at 6 a.m. at the intersection of Columbus Drive and Monroe Street in Grant Park and ends at Columbus Drive and Congress Parkway.

Participants will receive a t-shirt, medal, certificate, “swag bag,” and free admission to the Finish Line Festival and Post Race Concert along with admission to the two-day Health & Fitness Expo.

The Post Race Concert in Butler Field will feature Cobra Starship with two opening acts and a closing DJ.

"[Chicago] is the world's best city for running," Dave Zimmer, owner of Chicago running store and training facility Fleet Feet Sports told NBC Chicago.

Rock 'n' Roll runners can sign up for free pace teams supplied through Chicago Endurance Sports where experienced racers will help them achieve their goal times.
