A 19-year-old Rockford man was charged with sexually assaulting a South Loop woman in her garage then robbing her husband in their home, police said.

Deontae M. Latham of the 900 block of 5th Avenue was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, home invasion and two counts of armed robbery.

The victim said a man with a gun approached her around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 as she got out of her car. He forced her back into her car and sexually assaulted her, police said. The man then stole her keys, went to her home and robbed her husband at gunpoint, according to police.

Residents told NBC Chicago at the time they had asked for more security in the neighborhood.
Latham is scheduled to appear in bond court later Tuesday.
