Rizzo vs. Bryant: Cubs Weigh in on Cup Conundrum

Rizzo and Bryant aren’t the only Cubs that went on the record about the cup issue

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are always involved in some type of shenanigans when they’re together, but there is one issue that the pals don’t see eye to eye on: Whether to wear a cup while they play baseball.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago, Bryant does indeed wear a cup when he plays third base for the Chicago Cubs, but Rizzo sits on the other end of the spectrum, as he trusts himself to, well, protect himself.

“I’ve worn it my whole life, so it’s comfortable for me,” Bryant told Rogers. “Most people don’t. I think they take for granted that the infield is going to be perfect and nicely manicured. I’ve seen some bad hops here and there.”

Rizzo and Bryant aren’t the only Cubs that went on the record about the cup issue. Second baseman Ben Zobrist, who has been in baseball seemingly as long as Bryant has been alive, is also on Kris’ side in the debate, while shortstop Addison Russell shockingly sides with Rizzo.

Russell, who says that he has quick enough hands to go cup-free, surprised even teammates with his answer to the question, as Zobrist told ESPN that he “can’t believe” that the shortstop doesn’t use the plastic protection for his prized possessions.
