Riverdale Police Search for Sexual Assault Suspect

Three females assaulted in two separate incidents

Riverdale police continue looking for a man who assaulted two teenage girls and attempted to attack another last week in the South suburb.

Police released a composite sketch of the suspect, who is described as a black man with a mustache in his mid 20s.  He stands about 5 feet, 9 inchess tall, police said.  Reports indicate he was wearing a black coat, dark pants, and a black scarf at the time of the attacks.

"It's very upsetting.  We need more police when things like this happen," said Lenore Simpson, who lives in the area.

The latest incident was reported last Thursday, when two 17-year-old girls told police that a man  sexually assaulted them at gunpoint.  It appears the incident happened after the teens got off a Pace bus at 142nd and Halsted Street in Riverdale.

After the attack, the man left the scene and the teenagers ran to a home to ask for help, police said.  Both girls were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Last Wednesday, another woman says a man with a similar description tried to attack her on the 14200 block of South Clark Street, but he ran away after she fell and screamed for help, police said.

"You really must pay attention to  your surroundings, especially when you are out in the public," said Riverdale police chief William McHenry.

Anyone with information should call the Riverdale Police Department at (708) 841 - 2203 option 2.
