Revolution Brewing, Shedd Team Up for New Beer

Harvest ale created using hops from Shedd's garden

The Shedd Aquarium isn't all about the kids anymore.

Shedd officials teamed up with Logan Square's Revolution Brewing to create a new beer called Penguin Hops.

The harvest ale was made from hops originally planted in the Shedd's gardens a decade ago.

The vine-growing plants were originally designed for aesthetic purposes, but when they needed to be removed, the Shedd looked for a way to repurpose them. The hops were delivered to Revolution earlier this month to begin the brewing process.

The beer will be available starting November 28th at Revolution's Brewpub (2323 N. Milwaukee), Revolution's Tap Room, (3340 N. Kedzie.) and a few other select establishments.

A dollar from each pint sold will help benefit the Shedd's global and local conservation initiatives.
