Report Names Best Chicago Neighborhood to ‘Live Well'

A report released by real estate website Trulia names Rogers Park as the best neighborhood in Chicago, and 11th best natiowide

Everyone in Chicago has their own idea of which neighborhood in the city is best, and now real estate website Trulia has weighed in with its own rankings.

The site stacked Chicago’s hoods against neighborhoods in large cities nationwideIn a report studying the best places to stay active and healthy. They put together a “Live Well Index,” ranking neighborhoods by the amount of quiet streets, places to play, and number of care facilities in the area.

The best neighborhood in Chicago, according to these metrics? Rogers Park.

The North Side neighborhood ranked first in Chicago and 11th nationally, with 6.5 play-centric amenities (parks, trails, “indoor bounce houses,” and the like) and care facilities (hospitals, pharmacies, day cares) per square mile.

After Rogers Park, the next highest Chicago neighborhoods are DePaul (though Lincoln Park ranks 14th in the city), Uptown, West Town, and Forest Glen. 36 Chicago neighborhoods made the list in total, of 877 studied across the country.

Despite a solid showing, Chicago fell short of the top ten, with seven California and three Seattle neighborhoods earning the highest marks.

The site does warn that several neighborhoods are “fantastic” for living well, but didn't make the list because they may have performed well in one category, but not the others.
