After stunning, near-perfect appearances during the team event, three of the top U.S. skaters stumbled in some of the most unexpected Olympic figure skating moments. (Watch the performances here.)
Bradie Tennell hadn't fallen yet this season, until her first jump of the short program. Needing to compete her best for a shot at medaling in the free skate, Tennell's "rare" and uncharateristic falls continued to plague her routine in the free skate.
And she wasn't alone.
After making history completing a triple axel in the team free skate event, Mirai Nagasu couldn't repeat during her individual free skate, stumbling numerous times in what would be her final performance, these Games.
Karen Chen also missed her landings on several jumps during the free skate program.
Tennell finished ninth with teammates Nagasu and Chen right behind her. It marked the worst performance by the U.S. contingent at the Winter Games and in modern-day Olympic history.
