Rainy Week Ahead for Chicago Area

Showers, storms predicted on-and-off throughout the week

On-and-off rain and thunderstorms kick off the first full week of summer in Chicago.

Models show periods of scattered showers and storms throughout the day Monday. Though the risk for severe weather appears low, southern counties and northwest Indiana are favored for heavier rain at times.

According to the National Weather Service, embedded storms are expected in the early afternoon with scattered storms possible later in the day. A few storms along and east of I-55 may have wind gusts exceeding 40 mph.

High temperatures likely will reach the low to mid-80s, though lakefront temperatures could turn cooler by late afternoon.

Showers and storms are expected to end early Monday evening, but models show they could return early Tuesday and again late in the day. Highs maintain in the mid-80s through the day.

Wednesday and Thursday look partly sunny with temperatures cooling slightly and reaching the upper 70s. There's a chance for showers and possible storms both days.

Friday turns warmer and more humid, again with showers and storms in the forecast. Those threats continue through the weekend as high temperatures climb into the mid-80s.
