More Than a Dozen Puppies Saved in Back of the Yards House Fire

Once the fire was put out, crews discovered about 20 puppies in the home

Fire crews responding to a fire to a Back of the Yards neighborhood home on the South Side rescued about 20 puppies Monday afternoon.

At 1:25 p.m., fire fighters responded to a home fire in the 4300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, according to fire media officials.

Once the fire was put out, crews discovered about 20 puppies in the home. The puppies, which were uninjured, were saved and the city Animal Care and Control Department took them in, according to fire media officials.

Crews later learned that the home belonged to a person who took in stray animals.
