Motorists were urged to use extra caution on Chicago-area roadways Thursday morning due to problems associated with standing water.
Spotty flooding was reported on the inbound lanes of Interstate 55 at Pulaski and on ramps on the Bishop Ford Freeway. Television cameras recorded one car on the inbound Stevenson Expressway hitting a puddle, hydroplaning, and crashing into the median wall.
The rain was expected to continue to fall through the evening hours. By midday, some portions of the metropolitan area had already recorded more than four inches of rain.
National Weather Service officials allowed a flood advisory for Cook, Will, Kendall and Kane counties to expire at 9:30 a.m. but kept one in effect for areas in Will County along the east branch of the DuPage River.
That rainfall should taper off by the time trick-or-treaters head in the evening hours, out but conditions will still be windy and wet. After that, temperatures fall and the winds will shift to the west, making for less-than-ideal conditions for ghouls seeking treats.
