Police: Woman Sexually Assaulted at Knifepoint After Answering Craigslist Ad

The woman allegedly answered a Craigslist advertisement to rent a room in a home when she was threatened and sexually assaulted

A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 43-year-old woman at knifepoint after she answered a Craiglist advertisement in suburban Chicago Wednesday.

The woman told Des Plaines Police she answered the ad to rent a room at a home in the 1000 of South River Road from a man named Farhad Tanzif. The woman met Tanzif at the home, agreed to rent the room and left to retrieve some personal items, police said.

When the woman returned around 8:30 p.m., she found Tanzif armed with a knife. He threatened to harm her and then sexually assaulted her, police said.

Following the incident, the woman was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Tanzif, 50, was charged with two felony counts for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual assault. He is scheduled for a bond hearing Saturday.
