Police Warn of Taxi Robberies on South Side

At least two cab drivers were robbed at gunpoint in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood

Chicago cab drivers are being targeted by robbers on Chicago’s South Side, according to an alert from Chicago police.

Police issued the community alert Saturday afternoon, warning that at least two cab drivers were robbed at gunpoint in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood in less than one month.

Police said the incidents took place along South Michigan Avenue during the early morning hours.

They said an offender hails a taxicab and once he receives his ride, he produces a handgun and demands the driver’s money and cellphone.

The first incident took place around 3:40 a.m. June 14 in the 4700 block of South Michigan Avenue. The second reported incident took place around 2:30 a.m. July 2 in the 4800 block of South Michigan Avenue.

The robber is described as a man between the ages of 20 to 29, roughly 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and between 160 to 170 pounds.
