Chicago Police are warning residents about two recent armed robberies in the South Loop.
In both incidents, a the robber approached three females, showed a silver handgun and demanded or physically took their purses, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.
The most recent robbery happened at 8:40 a.m. Aug. 12 in the 1800 block of South Prairie, while the other happened at 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East Cullerton, police said.
The robber is described as a 135-pound black man, standing between 5-feet-4 and 5-feet-10 with black hair, police said.
The suspect was captured on surveillance video using a victim’s credit card to purchase gas at Econogas at 43rd and Wentworth within 15 minutes of a robbery, police said. He was driving a champaign-colored Chevrolet with an Illinois handicap license plate 275099, reported stolen from Oak Park on Aug. 7. There was a possible second suspect involved as the driver.
