Man Shot by Police in Chatham Neighborhood

A man was shot by police early Saturday after he allegedly pointed a weapon at officers in the Chatham neighborhood, police said.

Officers were reportedly approaching a suspicious male standing at the edge of an alley around 1 a.m. in the 8500 block of South Rhodes Avenue when the man fled on foot, police said.

The chase continued into the backyard of a nearby residence when the man pointed a weapon in the direction of the officers, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

The officers shot the man, who was later transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the weapon was recovered, officials said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
