Police Search for Lake Zurich Hit-and-Run Suspect

Police continued to search for a light-colored sport-utility vehicle allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an 18-year-old and injured two other teenagers Friday night in northwest suburban Lake Zurich.

About 9:15 p.m. Friday, Gabriella Drozdz and her friends were walking to Alpine Fest on a gravel shoulder along Church Street near Lake Zurich High School when the SUV swerved off the road, struck Drozdz and her friends from behind and drove away.

Drozdz was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead. The two other teenage girls were taken to the hospital, but they did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said. The vehicle police were searching for was last seen traveling south on Church Street and may have a damaged or broken turn signal light cover on the front passenger side, police said.

“The girls who were with my sister said the SUV didn’t have lights on,” said Drozdz’s sister, Ilona Gregory.
