A child was rescued after being locked in a hot car at Lincolnwood Mall during a dangerous heat wave Friday.

According to the Lincolnwood Fire Department, first responders arrived at the mall Friday afternoon for a report of a "baby locked in a car" at the mall outside an Olive Garden.

Police said the child's parents were loading items into their car when they accidentally shut a door with their child and keys inside. The parents immediately called for help, authorities said.

Firefighters worked with tools to try to open the door but were unsuccessful. Police also joined in the rescue efforts and were able to get the baby out of the vehicle.

Firefighters said the temperature inside the car measured 112 degrees at the time. The child was inside for about 10 minutes.

"In this heat we don't want to take any chances," said Capt. Dean Friedlund.

Police said no charges will be pressed.

The entire Chicago area is under an Excessive Heat Warning Friday and Saturday as heat index values could rise as high as 115 degrees for some.
