Police Officer Shot on South Side

A 43-year-old off-duty Chicago police officer was shot in the South Side's Fuller Park neighborhood Sunday afternoon. He is hospitalized in good condition.

About 2:30 p.m., fire paramedics responded to 150 W. 43rd St., where they found a Chicago police officer who was shot, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

The officer was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Roccasalva, who did not immediately know where on his body the officer was wounded.

Wentworth Area police Sgt. Tony Navarrete said detectives were on their way to the hospital and still on the scene Sunday afternoon.

“We’re all still out there,’’ said Navarrete. “We’re still trying to find out exactly what happened.”

Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Juan Valenzuela said at 3 p.m. that his troopers were assisting with traffic control in the area of 45th and the Dan Ryan.
