Police: Man Tried to Lure Children Into Car

Highwood police released sketches Friday of a man that allegedly approached children in separate incidents this week near Oak Terrace School and offered them a ride home.

In the latest incident, an 8-year-old boy said he ran from a man Wednesday around 3:25 p.m. and was not harmed. The man reportedly approached within two feet of the boy, who was on his way home from Oak Terrace School on Prairie Avenue, and offered him a ride home.

Another incident involved a 7-year-old girl who was approached Monday around 4:30 p.m. near the same school.

The man told the girl, “I know your dad. I can give you a ride home.”

The girl ran back into her school and was not harmed.

The man is described to be in his mid-30s, 5-foot-7, medium build with “spikey” black hair and a star tattoo on his right forearm.

He also wore sunglasses, had a hoop earring in his left ear and a goatee.

Parents of students in the North Shore School District 112 are being warned to keep a close eye on their children until the man is caught.

Police continue to patrol the area closely.
