Three package thefts were reported within hours of each other Monday

Five people were arrested after a series of package thefts were reported in Chicago Monday.

Three package thefts were reported within hours of each other Monday, but police said they don’t believe the incidents were connected.

Two people were arrested in connection with the theft of two packages from the porch of a home in the 1700 block of West Diversey Avenue in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood just after 10 a.m., according to authorities.

Travis Slaughtaire, 21, of Chicago and Dwayne Bullock, 20, of Chicago were both charged with a misdemeanor count of theft under $500. Police said the contents of both packages were recovered and returned to the victim.

Around 2:45 p.m., police said a 49-year-old woman was seen removing packages from the front porch of two residences in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Elizabeth Quilez, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of felony theft in connection with stolen packages, which were removed from homes in the 6200 and 6300 blocks of West Patterson Avenue.

Less than an hour later, a 50-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman who live in the 1600 block of North Wood Street were arrested for stealing a package from a home on their block. \Charges were pending against the two as of Tuesday afternoon.

With the holiday shopping season underway, police said residents should take extra precautions to prevent the theft of packages.
