Officers shot and killed a man with a handgun Wednesday night at Holiday Inn Express in north suburban Waukegan, police said.
Police were called to the hotel on the 600 block of Lakehurst Road around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a man brandishing a weapon, officials said.
They said the man pointed the gun at them when they arrived.
An officer shot one round in self-defense, hitting 34-year-old John Corcoran of Waukegan, police said.
Corcoran later died from the wound.
