Just days after some of the biggest holiday sales led to an online shopping frenzy across the nation, a FedEx truck was stolen in Chicago, authorities said.
Police said the truck was stolen around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday near 74th and Vernon. It was later located about a half-mile away in the 7400 block of South Evans.
Authorities initially said several stolen FedEx packages were recovered and victims were being interviewed Wednesday afternoon. They later said it has not yet been determined if any packages were taken from the truck.
FedEx also said in a statement it could not confirm if any packages were taken from the truck during the theft.
“We are aware of the vehicle theft in Chicago today and are grateful that no one was injured," the company said in a statement. "We are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time. Customers with questions about their shipments can track their packages on http://fedex.com or call 1-800-GO-FEDEX.”
No one was in custody in connection with the theft as of the afternoon hours, police said. The incident remained under investigation.
