Gang Ties Investigated in Father-Son Murders

No arrests made in case

Police are investigating whether a gang affiliation had anything to do with the fatal shooting of a Palatine teen and his father early Wednesday.

Segundo Reynosa, 38, and his 15-year-old son, Luis, were found shot to death early Wednesday in northwest suburban Palatine.

They were discovered lying on the floor with gunshot wounds in an apartment at the Baldwin Greens Apartments in the 1900 block of Green Lane North at about 12:25 a.m., according to Palatine police.

Both were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police said the teen had gang ties and neighbors confirm a heavy gang presence in the area.

"This neighborhood right here, it's a gang. This whole complex is just one gang," said Tracy Ramirez.

Investigators say police were very familiar with Luis, but wouldn't say if they were aware of a motive for the shooting.

"Me, I try to hold back the tears, but it gets to you. At some point it gets to you and you can't handle it no matter what," the teen's friend, Javier Ponce said.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information should call police at 847-359-9000 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 847-590-7867.
