Man Charged With Assault on Chicago Police Commander

A Chicago Police commander was assaulted while responding to a hold-up alarm on the Southwest Side Tuesday, according to authorities.

David McNaughton, commander of the 8th District, responded to an alarm around 10:05 a.m. Tuesday in the 6800 block of South Pulaski, police said. He tried to arrest a suspect who allegedly became “combative” and struck the commander repeatedly, police said.

The suspect, 20-year-old Alexis Aranda, was eventually taken into custody after being tasered by arriving units, officials said.

Aranda was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting arrest, officials said. He was released on bond on charges of previously assaulting a police officer. He was due in court Nov. 19.
