Police: Babysitter Was “Falling Down Drunk”

Sitter accused of drinking while caring for toddler on Christmas Eve

A 23-year-old woman faces misdemeanor charges after the River North couple who hired her to baby-sit came home to find her falling-down drunk on Christmas Eve, police say.

The woman was caring for a 13-month-old toddler, but the child was unharmed, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police say the couple returned home at 4:30 p.m. to find the sitter slumped against the kitchen counter. A police report says she tried to walk but fell down multiple times. That's when the child's mother became alarmed and called an ambulance.

Police say the sitter was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.362 percent, which is more than four times the legal limit for driving of 0.08 percent.

The sitter was charged with endangering the health of a child. The child was under her care for about 5 hours.
