Fall is officially underway, the time of the year when trees flaunt their brilliant colors, when Apple Cider becomes a sought-after drink and, of course, the time to pick pumpkins.
Whether you're a fan of carving or just want some pumpkins to spruce up your porch, there are plenty of places you and your family can visit in the Chicago area.
City of Chicago
The fall-focused event includes a pumpkin patch, corn maze and, of course, animal viewings. The Fall Fest runs from Sept. 27 to Oct. 27 on Fridays through Sundays. Admission is free, however some attractions require tickets.
Local
Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up, which calls itself "the greatest fall interactive pop-up experience" includes a nightime lights display and a pumpkin-themed party. The event is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The fun goes from Oct. 3 to Nov. 3.
The one-day is just one of multiple pumpkin patches organized by the Chicago Park District. Kids will be able to enjoy several fun activities including halloween-themed games and rides on Oct. 5. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Chicago Park District is also organizing a Fall Fest at Union Park on Oct. 5., and a pumpkin patch at Rainey Park on Oct. 19.
Other events in the city include a Harvest Fest at North Park Village Nature Center on Oct. 12 and 13, as well as Harvest Fest at Indian Boundary Park on Oct. 26.
Chicago Suburbs
Sonny Acres Farm - West Chicago
The family-owned pumpkin farm has plenty of activities for all ages including a petting, zoo, haunted barn and farm fresh market. The farm is open until Nov. 3.
Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm - Homer Glen
Along with pumpkins, the long-standing farm includes several attractions like fun slides and a free selfie booth. Fall activities go until Nov. 3.
Kroll’s Fall Harvest Farm - Waukegan
Families are encouraged to visit Kroll's Fall Harvest Farm for their pumpkin patch, hayrides and corn maze. The farm is open seven days a week.
Didier Farms has plenty of pumpkins, but there are also several unique activities like a Parakeet Ekhibit and the "Silly String Asylum." The fun wraps up for the season on Oct. 31.
Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm - Crest Hill
Siegel Cottonwood Farm touts itself pumpkin farm as a unique one, since it is a real operating farm year-round, according to its website. The farm also believes its important to educate people, young and old alike, about farming. The pumpkin farm is open each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 31.
