Man's Body Found in Car Submerged in Lake Michigan

A man was found dead in a vehicle submerged in Lake Michigan Monday afternoon at the 31st Street Harbor.

Fire officials first reported a car in the lake around 2:30 p.m. near the 31st Street boat ramp in Chicago. They later said a man's body was found in the water.

Chicago police said the 58-year-old man, identified as Mark Grabowski, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford, people walking along the boat dock noticed the car in the water and called 911. Langford said the car's door was open when first responders arrived and the vehicle was under about 8 feet of water.

Police estimate the vehicle was in the water for at least four hours before first responders arrived. A death investigation is ongoing, according to authorities.
