‘He Should Be Behind Bars': Part-Time Pastor Accused of Home Repair Scams

City and state agencies are looking into Victor Gadoy after many people say he has taken money without performing home repairs he was paid to do.

The Better Business Bureau said they have 17 complaints against Gadoy -- who is also a part-time Spanish radio pastor -- over jobs he never finished.

Gresham couple Betsy and Gerard Auguste hired Godoy in the summer of 2013 to fix a leak in their ceiling and renovate their kitchen. After $10,000, the jobs have not been finished. Another customer, Ebony Curl, said she hired him to fix steps to her home for $1,600, but he never completed the job.

“Now I’m looking for someone to finish the job,” Curl said.

Godoy said by phone that he did fix the kitchen and that he didn't fix the steps to the home because of the weather.

“A con man is preying on people who trust him,” said the Commissioner of The Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Maria Guerra Lapacek. “He should be behind bars.”

NBC Chicago first reported about Gadoy in May. Since then, Lapacek said the department has at least $35,00 of fraud they can link to him.

“This person should not have another dollar of people’s money,” Lapacek said.

Customers looking for home repairs are strongly urged to look for licenses from contractors. They should also be insured and bonded.
