One Dead, Four Injured in Crash on Dan Ryan Expressway

A two-car crash on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway killed one person and injured four others early Saturday.

About 3:30 a.m., a car heading south on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 26th Street crashed in to another car that had spun out on the center lanes, Illinois State Police said.

One person was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where they were pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. No other information was being released about the person pending notification of their family.

Two others involved in the crash were in serious-to-critical condition and were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Stroger Hospital, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Larry Langford said.

Another person was in fair-to-serious condition and was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Langford said.

One more person refused medical treatment, Langford said.

Lanes near the crash site had reopened to traffic about 6:45 a.m., according to state police.
