1 Dead and 7 Injured in Kennedy Crash

A car struck two vans early Sunday

One woman is dead and seven other people are injured after a three-car crash on the Kennedy Expressway Sunday morning.

A car with five occupants struck two vans around 4:30 a.m. in the outbound lanes of the Kennedy at Armitage Avenue, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk.

The driver of that car had lost control of the vehicle, striking a concrete wall to the left, then crossed back into traffic, striking the other two vehicles, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jason LoCoco.

As of about  12:30 p.m., the two right lanes near Armitage and the exit ramp to Armitage remained closed, according to Nokia Traffic Edge. Divers are advised to take the express lanes or exit on North Avenue to avoid the congestion, according to the NBC 5 Traffic map.

A 23-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to state police.

The driver of the car was arrested for driving under the influence, Bukaczyk said. No charges have been filed and Illinois State Police are investigating.
