Man Dies in Chicago Police Custody

Authorities are conducting a death investigation after Chicago police said a man died while in police custody early Monday morning, officials said.

Officers said the incident happened after they were called to the scene of a possible burglary around 1:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of West Pershing. 

A man suspected of being involved in the burglary was “sweating heavily with labored breathing," according to authorities. Paramedics were called but, despite medical help, the man became unresponsive.

Further details surrounding the man's death were not immediately clear.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
