Officer Fatally Shoots ‘Armed Individual' on Chicago's South Side: CPD

An officer fatally shot an armed person Wednesday night on Chicago’s South Side, police confirmed.

The shooting occurred in the 300 block of East 47th Street in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood where police were conducting a narcotics operation sometime after 8 p.m., police said. The armed person was struck by police gunfire and taken to the hospital in critical condition where they were plater pronounced dead. An officer was taken to the hospital for a “possible broken ankle” sustained during the confrontation.

The scene grew heated as neighbors came out to the scene and began challenging the police about what happened. Voices raised and tempers flared. 

One man even crossed the crime scene tape and police used a stun gun on him.

On resident told NBC 5 he witnessed police confronting the person who was shot.

"(The officer) He was looking at him (the suspect). Then he started to run into the alley--and I heard shots, five shots," witness Joseph Lambus said. "They shot him in the back. They shot him in the back."

A gun was recovered from the scene, police said.
